C’est Bon Bar & Bistro

01. Brief

A bar and bistro that celebrates modern French cuisine and Clarence Corner's history.

The brief also required the space to double up as a location for private events, wine-tasting hub and place for intimate parties. The former rendered walls were peeled back to expose the original brick walls and arches. Elements of French industrial design are combined with traditional Australian carpentry to create something unique and memorable to an evolving South Brisbane precinct.

02. Heritage

Clarence Corner is an important piece of Woolloongabba history, in which C'est Bon sits at the centre.

Formerly tenanted by the Heinz Meats butcher, the bar is located in a Heritage building on Stanley St, South Brisbane. One of the significant challenges in the project was to update the interior but ensure that the heritage of the building is protected. This meant coming up with clever solutions, such as the steel arches in which conduits and lighting could be mounted, to ensure any intervention was touching the significant walls lightly.

03. Details

The bar furnishings have been updated, while maintaining a harmonious interior balance between heritage and contemporary textures, exemplified by the red-brick walls and steel arches which center the space. Past the kitchen sits the Cellar – a secluded nook where C’est Bon stores numerous hard-to-find bottles. It doubles as a private event space, wine-tasting hub and intimate party location, with cork-lined walls and a large communal table.
